Our Approach

Research that goes beyond the headline.

The Capital Review is built around a simple principle: an investment view is only as useful as the reasoning behind it.

Our research examines the thesis, valuation, catalysts, risks and the factors that could change our view as new information emerges.

A deeper understanding of the investment case.

A clearer basis for independent decision-making.

Our Framework

How we assess an investment case.

A disciplined framework helps separate what matters from what merely moves the market.

I Investment Thesis

The fundamental case for owning the business includes the quality of the company, earnings drivers, competitive position and assumptions on which the opportunity depends.

II Valuation

The framework used to assess intrinsic value, including methodology, key assumptions, scenario analysis and the degree of upside or downside implied by the current market price.

III Catalysts

The events or developments capable of changing market expectations, accelerating earnings outcomes or closing the gap between price and assessed value.

IV Downside & Thesis Risk

The factors that could impair the investment case, challenge key assumptions or cause us to reassess our view.

V Liquidity & Market Structure

Trading liquidity, ownership dynamics, market depth and other structural considerations that may influence position sizing, entry or exit.

VI Market Perspective

How our view compares with prevailing expectations, sector dynamics and the broader market narrative and where the potential disconnect may lie.

Our Research Principles

Principles that guide our work.

The Capital Review is built around a disciplined approach to forming, testing and evolving an investment view.

Evidence over narrative

We start with the fundamentals, not the market story. Company disclosures, financial performance, industry structure and clearly stated assumptions form the basis of our analysis.

Valuation matters

A strong business is not automatically a compelling investment. We consider valuation alongside quality, growth, risk and market expectations to assess where opportunity may genuinely exist.

Conviction over frequency

We do not believe research becomes more valuable simply because more of it is published. Where the evidence is insufficient, we would rather wait than manufacture a view.

Views should evolve

An investment thesis should change when the evidence changes. We revisit our assumptions, reassess valuation and update our view as material information emerges.

Research Standards

Clarity in how research is formed and presented.

The credibility of a research view depends not only on the conclusion, but on understanding the assumptions, evidence and interests behind it.

Facts, estimates & opinion

We distinguish between reported information, analytical assumptions and our own judgement so members can understand what each conclusion is built on.

Changes & corrections

Material changes to a view should be visible. Where new information alters the thesis, valuation or risk assessment, our research will reflect that evolution.

Conflicts & disclosures

Access research structured to support independent investment decisions without unnecessary complexity.
